How To Set Up Job Types in Job Settings

All plansBeginner3 minutesUpdated August 7, 2026

Go to Settings > Job Settings to manage your job types: click Add Job Type to create one with a name and color, drag to reorder the list, and use the Show in website widget toggle to control which types clients can pick when booking online.

Every job in WorkZen carries a job type: the label and color that says what kind of work it is. Settings > Job Settings is where you define them, and it also quietly controls what clients can book from your website.

Manage your job types

Open Settings > Job Settings. The Job Types card lists every type your company handles, each with its color and three quick actions: an eye icon for widget visibility, a pencil to edit, and a trash icon to delete (when the type can be deleted).

To create one, click Add Job Type:

  1. Enter the Name (required), for example "Furnace Install" or "Emergency Repair".
  2. Pick a Color. It appears next to the type wherever jobs are created or shown, so a glance tells your team what kind of work it is.
  3. Decide whether to enable Show in website widget (more below).
  4. Click Create.

Editing works the same way through the pencil icon, with Update to save.

Order the list deliberately

Drag job types by the grip handle to reorder them. The order here is the order your team sees in every job type picker, and the first type in the list is preselected when someone creates a new job. Put your bread-and-butter service on top and job creation gets one click faster for everyone.

Control what clients can book

The Show in website widget toggle decides whether a job type appears as a choice when a client books from your website widget. Accepted requests then flow through your booking requests on the dashboard.

Use it to keep the public menu clean: "Duct Cleaning" belongs in the widget; "Warranty Callback" and "Internal Maintenance" do not. The eye icon on each row flips visibility with one click, no dialog needed.

Deleting a job type

Click the trash icon and confirm. Two guardrails apply:

RuleWhy
Protected types cannot be deletedSome built-in types are permanent; WorkZen shows "This job type cannot be deleted"
The last type cannot be deletedEvery job needs a type, so at least one must always exist
Warning

Deleting a job type cannot be undone. If you just want it out of sight, hide it from the widget instead of deleting it.
